I have a netgear router where I can access the USB drives by going to \\192.168.1.1 in explorer. I use FreeFTPd on my desktop to host files, but am willing to install other stuff. It it possible to go to \\192.168.1.9 (ip of desktop) to map network drives that way and get decent transfer speeds and not the god-awful ones that Windows Explorer FTP offers.
