Wired connection, internet stuck at "Identifying", 169.XX IP problem

Hi hi! So we recently changed our telephone cable at it was really old and crappy and this involved moving the modem quite a bit. Just to make sure everything was clean and dandy we reset(ted?) the modem/router. I am on a HP Pavilion DV6 6096 EX NOTEBOOK.
