cannot share folders on Windows 7 PC with Windows 8 laptop

I have a folder full of Word documents on my Windows 7 PC that I need to share with my Windows 8 laptop. On the Windows 7 PC, I enabled all of the necessary sharing options, and then on the other computer I clicked on the map network drive. I was then able to find the folder that I wanted to access and selected it, however I got a message saying that I cannot access it. What am I not doing...
