Dial-up/VPN connection don't show in task bar tray

I successfully set up a VPN connection to a remore server and established the connection. However, the connection does not show on the task bar icon when hovering over it or clicking on it; so I cannot connect/disconnect through the icon, but have to go through the actual Network and Sharing Center. In fact, it only shows my network connected to the internet a dnothing else. I'm using Win 7...
